The
insertion of a device into the female reproductive tract goes back
hundreds of years. One such object is the intrauterine device (IUD),
the "modern" form of which has been around for almost 100 years.
Until 1986, the intrauterine device was popular, but it was removed
from the market because of many lawsuits against A. H. Robbins
Company. The IUD has recently reappeared on the market. There are
basically two types of IUD, one contains copper and the other
contains prostagen. The intrauterine device is more than 98%
effective. There are numerous mechanisms by which the IUD is believed
to work.
