Poor Parenting Behavior

Poor parenting behavior is always in the news for mammals including humans. Poor parenting does result in higher infant morality rates. Cheetahs are not known for purposefully leaving their young although they will if prey species are scarce. The mother may leave the young for up to 48 hrs while looking for food. If there is not enough food for lactation, a mother may abandon her cubs.

Poor parenting behavior is most often observed in zoos and reserves. Litter size is also the smallest in zoos.
